Your Growth Potential Report

On this occasion your score has been compared against a cross section of the population

Please understand that your score range may be higher or lower if you were to be compared against a different population, cultural or occupational group.

Your score for
'Potential for Change and Self-improvement'
is in the High Range

This short but powerful questionnaire, designed by two eminent psychologists

from the University of Kansas, has been found to accurately predict an inner potential for change.

In the past it has been shown that people with similar personality scores to yours have a strong capacity for change. Your responses also indicate that you have a great deal of unused potential that you have not yet turned to your advantage.

In addition, the results suggest that you display a good ability for personal integration and that you have many latent strengths, as well as the ability to maintain a balance between your inner impulses and the demands of outer reality.

In conclusion, your responses to this psychometric personality test indicate that you have a strong potential for improvement and personal growth.

End of your personal report

In a recent experiment, 78% of the people who completed this questionnaire
stated that their report was either "quite accurate" or "accurate".
However, everybody gets the same report!

Barnum Effect !

This tongue-in-cheek and hopefully humorous test is actually very important.  Here's why it's included in the Guide to Testing.

We have included 'The Potential for Change and Self-improvement Questionnaire' for two reasons. For fun... and as a warning.

Your report demonstrates the Barnum Effect.

The Barnum Effect - named after the circus impresario P.T. Barnum. He once declared "a good circus has something for everybody".

Like fortunetellers, some test publishers rely on the Barnum Effect. Their test reports are so general, vague and wide ranging that they: ‘have something for everybody’. This is fun unless it could hurt someone. It’s fun, so long as no one is going to make important decisions based on the results of that report.

Unfortunately, some test sellers in the commercial world frequently use the Barnum Effect. They use it as the basis for what is know as ‘The Barnum Bait Validation Study’ – to sell their tests.

They arrange for some unsuspecting manager to complete one of their tests personally. They then give him a long Barnum type report, full of nice technical terms and dramatic graphics. Impressed by the accuracy, the manager then decides to spend his company’s money and use that test to select new people joining his company.

Here’s the warning we promised!

P. T. Barnum also once said: "there is a sucker born every minute".

So, beware!

If you ever have to make important decisions about people make sure that you choose a test to help you that doesn’t rely on the Barnum Effect.

If someone is making important decisions about you, make sure that they are not making those decisions based on a Barnum Effect type of report.
